Jim, The burned or sulfur discolored marks on the outside of the cases look consistent with what will 'usually' occur around the mouth of the cartridge case when firing low-power black powder loads....

I suspect the only way to solve this is to do a chamber cast? I hesitate to increase the load to see if it seals better.Jim

Just an addendum. If I drop a .590 bullet into the breech it will go down 2.25 inches, measured from the base of the bullet to the front face of the breech.Jim

As long as you don't have something strange, the only lead roof flashing I've ever come in contact with is as close to pure 100% lead as you can get.I've used it to cast round ball with good results.Joe
